Vacation Bible School

VBS was held at LaGrange almost annually since the 1958 VBS. Missing years since 1958 were 1962 and 1966. The 1962 VBS scheduled for June 8-13 was postponed until 1963, when the 1962 material was used. In 1964, after attendance of 36 and 37 for Monday and Tuesday, respectively, the remainder of the VBS week was cancelled. The 1966 VBS was discussed by the men as early as April. But it was never scheduled, and the men decided to let the ladies schedule VBS for 1967.

VBS was held in June for 19 years, August for 4 years, and one year started in July and ended in August.

VBS was held in the mornings for 17 years, evenings for 5 years, and unknown for 1963 and 1965. Those two years were not advertised in the LaGrange Standard and other records don’t record the time.

In 1981, the evening program was called FBS (“Family Bible School”), rather than VBS, because all ages were welcome for the first time since 1973. There were at least seven years with classes for all ages, even adults.

1966 VBS:

April 3, 1966 Men’s Meeting, pg. 54 – “VBS was discussed and decided also to bring it up at later meeting.”

September 4, 1966 Men’s Meeting, pg. 59 – “It was decided that the women could plan VBS for next year.”
